NCCSL discussion on “Bilateral trade between Sri Lanka and Indonesia” on 19 March

The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka will hold a discussion on “Bilateral Trade between Sri Lanka and Indonesia” with the participation of the Ambassador of Indonesia Harimawan Suyitno  as a special guest speaker on Wednesday 19  March 2014 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Chamber auditorium, No. 450 D.R. Wijewardene Mawatha, Colombo 10. The High Commissioner will be accompanied by the 3rd Secretary of the Embassy. They will make a presentation on current business trends, trade potential, opportunities for export, import, investments and other services available for Sri Lankans in Indonesia. The participants will also get an opportunity for discussion and interaction with the Ambassador and  Embassy  officials at the event. Sri Lanka’s main exports to Indonesia are wheat flour, apparel, tobacco, tea and tyres etc. Sri Lanka imports from Indonesia are coal, chemical products, cement, tobacco products and palm oil. The main commodities available in Indonesia are textile and allied products, electronic items, rubber and related articles, palm oil, footwear, automotive, shrimps, cocoa, coffee. There is a potential market for leather products, medical instruments and appliances, medicinal herbs, processed food, essential oils, fish and fish products, handicraft, jewellery, furniture, spices, stationery, agriculture and aquaculture. In 2010, Sri Lanka was the second largest foreign supplier of wheat flour to Indonesia with 166,919 MTs providing one fifth of wheat flour imports to Indonesia. In the first half of 2011, Sri Lanka’s wheat flour share in Indonesia jumped to 32%. Wheat flour milled in Sri Lanka consists of a considerable amount of Lanka’s exports to Indonesia. In 2012, more than 80% of Sri Lanka’s $ 87 million exports to Indonesia consisted of wheat flour. Sri Lanka’s trade with Indonesia totalled $ 505.4 million in 2012, with Sri Lanka exporting $ 87 million and importing $ 418.4 million.
