The National Chamber of Exporters (NCE) of Sri Lanka organised a 10-member business delegation to Bangkok, Thailand during 8 to 12 May 2013, to attend the Horti ASIA 2013 exhibition in Bangkok.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand General Shantha Kottegoda assisted the NCE group, in making their journey a success. The Ambassador met with the delegation at the embassy premises for general discussions, and during the meeting the delegates discussed possible business ventures in Thailand in terms of exports and other joint ventures. Kottegoda also joined the delegation in visiting the Horti Fair exhibition, and hosted the delegates to a dinner at his residence.
The following companies, and representatives joined the delegation; Piyal Wijesingheand, CIC Agri Businesses (Private) Limited Charaka Eranda Gamage, Jayanpathi Wickramasiri and Saman Dassanayake of Jayampathi Lanka Exports (PVT) Ltd, Nekab (PVT) Limited Ajith Priyantha Oodugama, Anilana Tropical Foliage Ltd., Nalin Priyantha Jayetileke and Mike Flora (PVT) Ltd Mihindu Keerthiratne and his wife.
Horti ASIA 2012 is an international trade exhibition focusing on bringing the latest technologies and innovations of both pre-harvesting and post-harvesting, for horticultural produce. The exhibition is the Asian Regions’ leading international tradeshow, for horticultural and floricultural products as well as production, and processing technology.
The event was organised to support the current fast growing horticulture and floriculture industries of the region. It created awareness regarding the growing industry, and provides horticultural information. It also acts as a platform to share knowledge on new innovations and technologies in order to improve the horticultural industry.
Some of the delegates participated at various seminars, covering topics relates to; post harvest and quality management of horticultural crops, value addition to horticulture produce, fruit and vegetable crop production technology: case study Thailand, future of organic horticulture in the global market and services innovation in agriculture. These seminars were conducted by professors from the Horticultural Science Society of Thailand, the Research and Institute for Food Research and Product Development of the Kasetsart University, and the Agricultural Research Development Agency (ARDA).
Visiting the Horti ASIA 2013 exhibition provided the participants the opportunity to meet with growers, producers, traders, and also visit auctions, wholesale markets, and other similar services.
The NCE provided its participants a complete package covering Airfare, Hotel and Transportation in Thailand between the Hotel, the Exhibition Center and the Sri Lankan Mission.
