The new Nel Farms (Noorani Estates Ltd.) logo and corporate brand identify were unveiled on Tuesday by Noorani Estates Director Noordeen Sethwala at the Ramada Hotel, in the presence of the company’s Board of Directors, senior management, and distinguished guests.
The guest speaker in attendance was Dr. Renuka Jayatissa, Nutrition Specialist of UNICEF and the former Head of Nutrition of the Medical Research Institute of Sri Lanka. At the launch, Nel Farms was also awarded SLS certification for both its egg farms (7 Hills Farm and Mangala Eliya Farm). The award was presented by Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI) Assistant Director (Technical) Janaki Chandrasekara.

Nel farms was incorporated in 1942 and initially focused on tea, rubber and coconut production. Today Nel Farms is one of the largest poultry farming operations in Sri Lanka. Producing high quality eggs is a core aspect of the Nel Farms business operation. The Nel Farms egg farming operation in Hatton is built on systematic processes and quality measures Nel Farms is a fully-integrated layer operation that ensures complete control of each process of the operation. Nel Farms’ hens are fed a well-balanced diet which is rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals, additionally a clean and calm environment is created for the hens. The proprietary feed formulation is responsible for the trademark golden yolk eggs produced by Nel Farms.
The entire egg farming operation at Nel Farms is extremely sterilised which ensures that all Nel Farms eggs are safe and wholesome. None of the Nel Farms eggs are fertilised and therefore none of the eggs contain life.
The Nel Farms egg farming operation comprises a series of organized processes and stages. Day-old chicks arrive at the farm from their own hatcheries and after 18 weeks they are transferred to the layer section.
In the layer section, hens are provided with a nourishing feed and the ideal conditions for laying are created. Each hen lays an egg approximately every 20 hours and eggs are collected four times a day. The best eggs are then selected and transferred to the egg room where they are cleaned and mechanically graded. Following a final inspection, the eggs are then packaged for the local and export markets accordingly.
Eggs are sent to the distributor on the same day or early on the following day. All eggs usually reach the marketplace within one day, delivering optimal freshness and quality to Nel Farms’ customers.
