Nestlé Lanka was awarded the Swarnadeepa Award 2012 for the company’s significant contribution to Sri Lanka’s agricultural sector via sourcing and procurement, training and development of farmers, infrastructure investment and micro-financing assistance.

The award was presented to Nestlé Lanka PLC Managing Director Ganesan Ampalavanar, by Governor of the Sabaragamuwa Province and former Parliament Speaker W. J.M. Lokubandara.

The Swarnadeepa Award 2012 is a symbol of recognition and appreciation extended to Nestlé Lanka for positively impacting the rural economy through its contribution to the local dairy industry for over three decades.

Organised by the Nidahas Lanka Mass Communicators Association, the Swarnadeepa Awards pays tribute to individuals and organisations that have contributed to the wellbeing of the country.

“We are honoured to receive this award in recognition of our efforts to create shared value for both Nestlé and society. We believe that the overall wellbeing of farmers, rural communities, small entrepreneurs and suppliers is intrinsic for the long term success of our business. Nestlé’s approach to rural development thus aims at ensuring thriving farmers and thriving communities.

Today, we’re proud to say that Nestlé indirectly impacts the livelihood of over 23,000 rural-based Sri Lankan dairy and coconut farmers and their families.

This award of appreciation reinforces our mission to make a difference by enhancing people’s quality of life through employment and economic development,” Ampalavanar stated at the award presentation.
