The President and the Members of the Sri Lanka Thailand Business Council made a courtesy call on the new Ambassador of Thailand in Sri Lanka at his official residence in Colombo recently. Ambassador Nopporn  Adchariyavanich  said:  “Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1955, Thailand and Sri Lanka have enjoyed close and cordial ties. Thailand and Sri Lanka shares many things in common. We are Buddhist countries.  We have open and tolerant society as well as kind-hearted and smiling people. “Nowadays, Sri Lanka has changed from the last decade. We find immense opportunities for Thailand and Sri Lanka to develop closer cooperation, especially trade and investment areas. In the year 2012, two-way trade volume between two countries was $ 545.30 million. The Royal Thai Government has always attached great importance to the bilateral relations with Sri Lanka. “After the official visit of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to Sri Lanka in May 2013, both countries agreed to forge closer economic cooperation and double the trade to $ 1 billion within the next three to five years. On behalf of the Royal Thai Embassy, I will do my best to increase the two-way trade and investment volumes between Thailand and Sri Lanka for mutual benefits and prosperity.”
