New Business Resource Centre opened in Vavuniya

A large number of small business owners are to benefit from a resource centre opened by the Vavuniya District Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, in Vavuniya District on 18 May.

To realise the growth potential of the small and medium enterprises in the Northern Province, the FCCISL has embarked on a wide range of relevant capacity enhancement activities of the district chambers.   

A significant step in this process is the establishment of a new Business Resource Centre in Vavuniya. Declaring the new centre open, Chief Technical Advisor Joseph Connolly of the ILO’s Local Empowerment through Economic Development Project, funded by the Australian Government, said that there is a need to look at long term development for the Northern Province, creating local wealth, ensuring its equal distribution and facilitating strong partnerships with the public and the private sectors. Connolly mentioned that this opening of the resource centre will be a key initiative to assist economic growth and sustainable employment creation in the district.

Board members, members and staff of the Vavuniya chamber participated at the opening ceremony. Addressing the gathering, Vavuniya Chamber Senior Vice President A. Sabanathan said that this business resource centre will assist entrepreneurs in Vavuniya to fulfil their business development and business information needs.
