Longstanding Director H. A. R. K. Wickramatileka has been appointed as the new Acting Chairman at Mercantile Shipping Company Plc.
He succeeds A.N.U. Jayawardena who retired recently after a long stint including as founder-director.
Wickramatileka was first appointed to Mercantile Shipping Board in May 1991. He held the position of Director Finance for over 15 years. He is a Director of Colombo Dockyard PLC and several other companies. Also he is the Chairman of Mercantile Emerald Shipping Ltd., Mercantile Marine Management Ltd., Royali Power Ltd. and Royali Agro Ltd.
He is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and holds a B.Sc. (Public Administration), Diploma in Professional Shipping, Norwegian Shipping Academy, Oslo.
Mercantile Shipping also announced the appointment of CFO Charmaine Peiris as a Non Independent Executive Director.
Presently she serves as Director in the Boards of Mercantile Marine Management Ltd., Mercantile Seamen Training Institute Ltd.
She is professionally qualified as Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants London (FCMA), and Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).
She possess a combination of financial expertise in commercial and non-commercial organisations with a service record of over 35 years. She commenced her career in commercial sector at the Times of Ceylon Ltd., to serve as Chief Accountant, took a further step as Manager Finance and Administration at Mercantile Shipping Company Ltd. and then climbed into managerial levels as General Manager, Director and CEO at Collettes Ltd.
