New Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka ready to push forward strategic cooperative partnership

The new Ambassador-designate of China to Sri Lanka, Yi Xianliang arrived in Colombo this week, the Chinese Embassy in Colombo said. Officials of the Sri Lankan Government, representatives from Chinese companies and the Overseas Chinese Association in Sri Lanka, representatives of the friendship associations of Sri Lanka and diplomats of the Chinese Embassy welcomed Yi Xianliang at the airport. The new envoy said China and Sri Lanka were time-tested friends and important partners and he was ready to “join hands with Sri Lankan friends” to make “unremitting efforts” to implement the outcomes reached during the state visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to Sri Lanka last year and push forward the strategic cooperative partnership between China and Sri Lanka. Yi Xianliang is a senior diplomat and expert on international law. He has worked in the Department of Treaty and Law and the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has been posted to the Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands.
