New era of economic development at Killinochchi with International Exhibition and Trade Fair 2013

The first ever trade exhibition and fair in Killinochchi after 30 years of war was successfully conducted recently at the central college ground Killinochchi. The exhibition was organised by the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) in collaboration with the District Secretariat and the security forces headquarters in Killinochchi. The exhibition was branded as KIeTF and powered by the Ministry of Economic Development as the main Development Partner and the BIZ+ VEGA program of the USAID as the gold partner for business development services. Northern province Governor G. A. Chandarasiri was the chief Guest of this historical event while Killinochchi Government Agent R.Ketheeswaran and Killinochchi commending officer Major General Udaya Perera joined as the Guests of honour. KIeTF 2013 has become a multifaceted growing sprout in the Northern development approach of the Government. Industrial development covers a significant area of the overall development process. Over 130 exhibition stalls represented agriculture, machinery, material, technology and business development services and the development projects of the Government assisting on boosting up the Northern economy. The Kilinochchi International Exhibition and Trade Fair successfully highlighted the resources needed at this moment to backup the rapid development campaign of the Government initiated in conflict affected areas over Northern Province especially in Killinochchi. Further, KIeTF supported to position Kilinochchi as a business and agricultural hub and gave an opportunity for all the exhibitors to showcase the excellences of their products and services, obtain greater exposure to a fast growing new market, find dealers for their product and services and setup buy back arrangements, business to business meetings and reasonable sales outcome. The musical shows and the carnival added a novel experience to the lives of the people in Killinochchi. The music bands of the tri-forces entertained the crowd a lot by playing Tamil songs. Little kids to matured adults danced on the stage and the ground with army officers showing the peace and harmony in the area and the close relationship between them.  The main objective of KIeTF is to support the livelihood of the people of Kilinochchi in every aspect through transferring the knowledge on latest technologies, service excellences, and the best practices which could be achieved easily through an event of this nature. KIeTF 2013 elaborated the objectives or the benefits anticipated, to accelerate the reactivation process in Kilinochchi district to provide a conducive and enabling environment to enhance the Trade and Agriculture Sectors and the general public at large. More than 130 exhibition stalls were conducted by leading private sector organisations and the government departments and ministries aggressively involving in the development process of conflict affected areas of the Northern Province. Nearly 18,000 people visited the exhibition especially the business delegates from other economic hubs of the country opening a new window to the emerging business and farmer community in the region which is one of the main objectives of the Development Agenda of the Government in settling the area economically after the war.  Seminar sessions and business clinics organised by the FCCISL in parallel to the event to transfer the latest business and management knowledge to the business community of the area and for the exhibitors with the assistance of the professional associations whose main objective is to assist the people of the country, added an extra value to the exhibition. KIeTF is the latest great achievement in our forty years service for the business and farming communities, as the apex chamber in Sri Lankan Chamber movement, said FCCISL President Kumar Mallimaratchi.
