New trade complex for Pettah pavement traders

Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Economic Development formally opened the new trade complex, built in Bodhi Raja Road, Pettah to accommodate pavement traders.

This trade complex has a capacity to accommodate 468 pavement traders. The completion of this project follows several other similar self-employment programmes undertaken by Minister Rajapaksa which include the trade complexes that were opened for pavement traders in Pettah and Nugegoda.

At the opening Minister Basil Rajapaksa stated that the government intended to build additional trade complexes to foster self-employment of traders in every major commercial city in the island.

Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Minister of National Languages and Social Integration, Wimal Weerawansa, Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities, Gamini Lokuge, Minister of Labour and Labour Relations, Colombo Municipal Council Special Commissioner Omar Kamil, self employed persons Federation Chairman Mahinda Kahandawa Arachchi and several government officials and the self employed beneficiaries of the project also participated at this occasion.
