The International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka yesterday announced the demise of its Vice Chairman and Acting CEO Nimal Wirasekera.
Wirasekera served as an Executive Committee Member and as a Vice Chairman at the International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka over seven years. He was appointed as the acting CEO of ICC Sri Lanka very recently.
“We greatly value his contributions to the International Chamber of Commerce and are deeply grieved to miss him so suddenly,” ICC Sri Lanka said in a statement.
The remains of the late Nimal Wirasekara will lie at A.F Raymonds funeral parlour Borella and the cremation will be held on Saturday 9 January, 5.00pm at the Borella General Cemetery.
Wirasekera was a Chartered Marketer, Diplomate and a full member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing of the United Kingdom, Honorary Member of the Institute of Marketing Management South Africa, Honorary Fellow of the Australian Sales and Marketing Institute, Member of the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing, Member of The International Chamber of Commerce (ICCSL), Centre Member of the Organisation of Professional Associations (OPA). Nimal was a Past President of the Rotary Club of Colombo Millennium City.
Wirasekera was a Director of the Tharuna Aruna Institute – a World Bank funded program under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and a member of the advisory committee on Marketing to the Export Development Board. He served as the Executive Director - Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing for over a decade. He led a team from SLIM to launch the Postgraduate Diploma in Apparel Marketing (Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK) in Sri Lanka. Effie Awards was introduced to Sri Lanka by Wirasekera and was the founder representative of Effies in Sri Lanka.
He was an independent consultant to several organisations and also the Secretary and Vice President of Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka.
