Nirmal appointed to Watawala Plantations Board

Top professional Nirmal Fernando has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Watawala Plantations Plc with effect from 17 May.

Fernando is a Fellow Member of the institute of Chartered Accountants, Sri Lanka (FCA) and holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from IMD (Lausanne).



He recently retired from the position of Managing Partner of KPMG Ford Rhodes Thornton and Co, Chartered Accountants, after a career spanning 47 years in the Firm. During his service in the practice, Fernando’s professional work covered financial audit corporate finance and transaction services, business advisory services, risk management and quality performance.

Within the KPMG International Network, Fernando served as a Board Member of MESA (Middle East/South Asia) and was also the Chairman of Audit Steering Group.

He served as a Council Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Sri Lanka and as the Chairman of the R&D Committee, IT Committing Ethics Committee and Corporate Governance Committee. He was also the Chairman of Sessions, Paper Writer and Panellist at various business conferences in the country.
