Norwegian Ambassador in Colombo, Thorbjørn Gaustadsæther, extended an official invitation to Sri Lanka during a discussion he held recently with the Sri Lankan Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, Mahinda Amaraweera, at the ministry.

The Government of Norway assists the Sri Lankan fisheries sector technically and financially in a multiple of ways. Surveying fisheries resources within the Extended Economic Zone (EEZ) of Sri Lanka and conducting census on fisheries products, developing aquaculture activities, earning foreign exchange and opening new employment opportunities are being carried out under the assistance of the Norwegian government.

Additionally, the government of Norway extends technical assistance and consultation in the formulation of the first ever fisheries policy in Sri Lanka and the National Aquaculture Development Authority (NAQDA) is already working jointly with Norwegian consultants.

The Ambassador has said that participation of fish exporters and other stakeholders of the Sri Lankan fisheries industry in this event will provide an international platform for the promotion of Sri Lankan fish products making other countries aware of their high quality.

The Nor Fishing exhibition showcases products like technology, processes and services related to harvesting, processing, transportation and sales being shown at Nor-Fishing as well as Industrial Products, Plant, Machinery & Equipment industries.

Minister Amaraweera has expressed his gratitude to the Norwegian government for its enduring support in the context of lifting the European Union ban on Sri Lankan fish exports.
