“My lucky number has always been 13,” said Nalinika Obeysekere who won Rs. 1 million last week at the Arpico Supercentre’s seasonal Millionaire Draw for their loyal customers.
Number 13, universally known as an unlucky number to be avoided in all situations, has surprisingly always been lucky for Nalinika, who smilingly affirmed that 13 has never brought her bad luck.
“In fact, I was born on a 13, in the month of June, so I never thought of it as an unlucky number because so far in my life, I have not had too much of bad luck!”
“However this is the first time I have ever won anything in my life,” she said with a beaming smile on her face. “I have not won anything in my whole life and when the Arpico people called me to say that I had been selected to participate, I called back Arpico to recheck because I just couldn’t believe that I had had the luck to be selected for anything, let alone win a million.”
Nalinika is a veterinary surgeon by profession and she is a familiar sight to animal lovers and pet owners who patronise a vet clinic in the heart of Colombo. She is seen around the clinic bustling with energy and speaking to terrified pets from huge fierce breeds to small puppies with the same loving kindness, which seems to calm down even the most difficult pets.
“I love animals and my greatest luck is the fact that I wake up every day and go happily to work looking forward to spending the whole day with the animals. I love caring for them and treating them. This money will really be useful in supporting my studies as I am just completing my masters. It has come at a really very opportune time,” Nalinika said, thanking Arpico Supercentre for giving her such a wonderful seasonal surprise.
“I am not a regular shopper but I get my supplies monthly and I always come to Arpico’s Hyde Park Corner store because I find everything I want here,” she said. “I’m not a person who will go from shop to shop hunting for supplies, I like to get all my food items and other utility items in one place and only Arpico Supercenters have this kind of offer customers everything they need.”
This is the fourth in a series of six Arpico Millionaire draws this season, and the first time lady luck has smiled on a lady so far for the season. The campaign will continue for two more weeks until 9 January 2014, and so there two more chances for all Arpico shoppers to become a millionaire this season.
This is also the third consecutive year Arpico is conducting this exciting series of Arpico Millionaires – a promotion where all loyal customers who possess a bill of over Rs. 3,000, which includes three out of 14 nominated brands, will automatically be eligible for selection for the draw.
