The Deputy Minister extended his gratitude to the Ambassador for the efforts undertaken by her to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries during her stint as the Ambassador to Sri Lanka by contributing towards deepening the political and economic ties and taking steps to enrich the bond between the Heads of States of the two nations.

During the discussion the Deputy Minister expressed his foremost appreciation on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka for the stance taken by China at the United Nations Human Rights Council Sessions in Geneva to vote against the anti Sri Lankan resolution that was moved in late March.

The Deputy Minister urged the Ambassador to further contribute towards the enhancement of bilateral cooperation between Sri Lanka and China within the fields of commerce, trade and people-to-people contacts upon her return to Beijing.

During the discussion the Deputy Minister also recalled the long standing friendship that exists between China and his family from his parents’ days with his late mother, Kusuma Gunawardena, being the first Chairman of the China-Sri Lanka Friendship Association.

Ambassador Xiuping thanked the Deputy Minister for working diligently to enhance bilateral ties between the two countries at the discussion, with particular reference to his stint as the Deputy Minister of External Affairs.
