Pakistani delegation visits Biyagama Export Processing Zone

The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka hosted a delegation from The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, which included some of the leading industrialists in Pakistan and briefed them on the opportunities Sri Lanka offers investors as well as the country’s rapidly improving business environment and thrust sectors for investment.

The Pakistan delegation, led by Imran Khalil Naseerthe, Chairman of the Pakistan-Sri Lanka Business Council, was on an official visit to Sri Lanka and had met leading personalities both from the public and private sectors. The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry visited Sri Lanka with the purpose of expanding trade and investment opportunities in the island. 

They expressed interest in finding out more about the capacity of the BOI’s Export Processing Zones and therefore the BOI arranged for them to visit the Biyagama Export Processing Zone (BEPZ).

Biyagama Export Processing Zone Director A.K. Jayasinghe briefed them about the zone. His presentation covered some of the zone infrastructure facilities, the benefits provided to investors who were operating there and other advantages. 

The Pakistani delegation was shown the Workwear Lanka Ltd. factory. This factory mainly produces safety gloves under the MIDAS safety brand name. C. Radesh, the Business Unit Head of Workwear Lanka Ltd., spoke about the factory’s operations and BOI facilities to the delegation. The Pakistani delegation went to all production areas of the factory and exchanged some ideas with the factory managers.

Finally they were shown the zone’s infrastructure facilities such as its water treatment plant, waste water treatment plant, road network and electricity supply plant.
