Parakrama to address 39th PMTA Conference in Niue Islands

Dr. Parakrama Dissanayake, Chairman/CEO of Aitken Spence Maritime, Logistics and Cargo and Director of Aitken Spence PLC, has been invited to address the 39th Pacific Maritime Transport Alliance to be held at Alofi, Niue Islands, off New Zealand, from 28 to 31 October 2014. His presentation will be on ‘3rd Industrial Revolution and its Implications on Asian Shipping’.
Pacific Maritime Transport Alliance (PMTA) is an association comprising of Ports Authorities within South Pacific Islands and includes countries such as, Australia, New Zealand, PNG, Fiji and Canada.
Dr. Dissanayake who serves on the UN/UNCTAD Panel as an expert on Ports and Shipping, is the first Sri Lankan to have obtained both the highest qualifications in Shipping, (FICS – Chartered Shipbrokers) UK and Transport and Logistics (FCILT – Chartered Fellow) UK. Having pioneered Commercial Maritime Education in Sri Lanka he also serves CINEC Maritime Campus as Jt. Managing Director.
Some of the positions he has held in the past includes, Chairman – Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Chairman – Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), Chairmanof Jaye Container Terminals, Sri Lanka Port Management Consultancy Services, Chairman – Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and Chairman, Central Advisory Council of Sri Lanka Transport Board.
Dr. Dissanayake who was conferred with the Asian Brand Leadership award by CMO Asia is a University of Oxford Business Alumni, Graduate of Harvard Business School (EEP) on ‘Global Economy’ and a Fellow of NORAD and JICA.
Some of the awards conferred on him include, Best Shipping Personality by the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, Distinguished Services to Society by PIMA of the University of Sri Jayawardenapura, Contribution to Shipping Industry by Ceylon Association of Ships’ Agents. He is also the Honorary Consul General for the Republic of Fiji Islands in Sri Lanka.
