People’s Bank gears up for 50th anniversary celebrations with the dawn of the New Year

The People’s Bank which was established on 1 July 1961 completes 50 years of invaluable service to the nation this year. The bank has made arrangements to hold many programmes with respect to the commemoration. In order to obtain blessings to the bank and its employees religious ceremonies were conducted on 1 January at Sri Dalada Maligawa, Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya and Kataragama Kiri Vehera.

A special ‘muruten pooja’ and an alms giving was held at the Dalada Maligawa under the patronage of the Mahanayaka thero of the Asgiri chapter Most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkhita thero and the Anunayaka thero of the Malwatu chapter Most Ven.Niyangoda Wijithasiri thero. The Diyawadana Nilame of Dalada Maligawa Nilanga Dela Bandara, chairman of the People’s Bank W. Karunajeewa attended the occasion with the corporate and executive management of the bank.

The ‘Ashirwada Pooja’ at Anuradhapura Sri Maha Bodhiya was held under the patronage of the head thero of the Atamasthanaya Ven. Dr. Pallegama Siriniwasa thero. The head thero of the Ruwanweli Seya temple Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana thero and other leading Buddhist clergy of Anuradhapura attended the occasion. CEO/General Manager of the People’s Bank H.S. Dharmasiri graced the occasion with the other senior staff members of the bank.

‘The Kapruk Pooja’ at Kataragama Kirivehera was conducted under the patronage of the head thero of the temple and the chancellor of the Uva University Ven. Dr. Aluthwewa Soratha thero. The DGM of People’s Bank T.A.Ariyapala attended the occasion along with the other officials of the Bank.

On 1 January all branches and service centres of the People’s Bank including the head office were open to the customers and at many branches, religious ceremonies of all religions were held. On this day the bank launched a promotion giving its current account holders the opportunity of winning motor cars.

Under this promotion any customer who maintains a minimum balance amount of Rs. 50,000 over a period of three months will be entitled to win a motor car once every three months. In addition to this the People’s Bank has planned to offer numerous benefits to its current account holders during the new year.
