Pership introduces stylish container living spaces

Imagine living in a ship container that has been transformed into a living space with state-of-the-art facilities. The Pership Group launched this interesting new concept of converted containers for domestic and hospitality purposes last week at Skelton Road, Colombo in a move to modernise the way people live.

This unique concept, ‘Exotic Asian Living’, provides an ideal platform to explore creativity and style in living spaces through container conversion solutions.

Speaking at the launch, Pership Group Deputy Chairman Jehan Edwards said: “It is indeed an exciting time for the industry. Pership is proud to expose Sri Lanka to this unique concept of living. While this concept is fast growing globally, it is relatively a new experience to Sri Lankans.”

He also stated that this concept is durable with a lifespan of 15 to 20 years and comes personalised, adding: “Our end product team makes it stylish, comfortable and gives it a personal style.”

Also at the launch, Pership Group Chairman Manik Pereira announced: “This was originally his (Edwards) idea and my daughter Nirmalee’s. Container conversion is an affordable living for everybody in need of a portable living space.”

These containers can be moved from one place to another without a hassle as they have been designed and developed for such purpose. The ‘Exotic Asian Living’ space launched at Skelton Road showcased a fully furnished, U-shaped, three-container living space with a front deck. Speaking to the Daily FT, Pership Head of Business Development Swantha Jayesinghe stated that it cost Rs. 2 million to convert the three containers into a living space with the likes of insulation, lights, etc. excluding the deck and the roof.  However, the cost differs according to the requirements of the client. He further mentioned that if a client wants a two-storey living space, then the company can most definitely create it. This sort of living space can be created and delivered within a span of four to six weeks. These containers have been designed to carry over 20 tons.

Currently, container conversion is used mostly for work spaces and storage units in Sri Lanka and Pership aims to make it a more open way of living, be it for domestic or office purposes. They are also trying to pitch it as boutique villas which are currently a rising trend in the country.

Jayesinghe revealed that they have completed projects for NGOs and are currently in the process of designing container converted classrooms.
