Ports, Shipping and Aviation Ministry gets working on 100-day program

Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Arjuna Ranatunga recently convened a special meeting for Ministry officials. The meeting was headed by the Secretary to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Aviation, newly-appointed Board of Directors and higher executive staff members of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), officials of the Ceylon Shipping Corporation Ltd., and officials headed by Director Merchant Shipping, to discuss of drafting an effective program for the shipping and port sector to assist the 100 day development program of the present government of President Maithripala Sirisena. Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Arjuna Ranatunga discusses plans to be implemented during the 100-day program for the ports and shipping sector with officials. Ministry Secretary L.P. Jayampathi, SLPA Chairman Dr. Lakdas Panagoda and Vice Chairman Capt. Asitha Wijesekara are also present The meeting was held at the Ministry of Port, Shipping and Aviation. The program drafted by the SLPA in this regard collaboratively will identify both short and long term implementations to effectively launch its developmental and institutional procedures and activities aiming greater development with transparency. Arjuna Ranatunga stated that the program to be drafted in this regard should be a meaningful and effective arrangement that fulfills the public and national requirements under the 100-day program of the Government. “President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe are extremely keen on the success of the 100-day program and the port sector should draw immediate attention to accomplish the final draft following discussions to forward to relevant institutions,” the Minister said. Jayampathi and SLPA Chairman Dr. Lakdas Panagoda are also present   The matters pertaining to the ongoing developments at the Colombo Port and the Colombo Port Expansion Project, Hambantota MRMR Port, Trincomalee, Galle and Oluvil Ports as well as the proposed cargo village and the Head Office Building for SLPA were also discussed. Ministry of Port, Shipping and Aviation Secretary L.P. Jayampathi, SLPA Chairman Dr. Lakdas Panagoda, Vice Chairman Capt. Asitha Wijesekara, Managing Director Capt. Nihal Keppetipola, Additional Managing Director J.K.P. Kurukulasuriya, Merchant Shipping Director General A.W. Seneviratne and higher officials of relevant shipping and port related institutions were also present at the occasion.
