Pradeep Moraes joins Indocean Developers on Altair Project

Indocean Developers (Pvt) Ltd., the promoter of the 68-story Altair condominium development in Colombo, has announced the appointment of Pradeep Moraes as President Sales & Marketing.



Moraes comes to Indocean Developers after 10 years as Head of Sales and Marketing in the property group of John Keells Holdings through its subsidiaries Asian Hotels & Properties PLC, John Keells Residential Properties (Pvt) Ltd., and British Overseas (Pvt) Ltd.

Announcing the appointment, Indocean Developers Director Sushil Mohta said: “Pradeep’s in-depth knowledge of the luxury condominium market, his extensive contacts in Sri Lanka and overseas, the confidence and trust he has built over the years and his multifaceted career experience will be an asset to the company and of significant value to its customers.”

At John Keells, Moraes headed a team that sold over 750 high-end luxury apartments, a unique feat in the Sri Lankan property market, and is credited with generating and being personally responsible for a significantly high proportion of those sales, Mohta said.

Educated at St. Benedict’s College, Colombo, and at Aquinas University College, Pradeep Moraes began his corporate life in the mid 1970s in the commercial aviation sector, working for Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Gulf Air and Air Lanka. He was Marketing Coordinator for Europe with Air Lanka in the mid 80s, where he also had executive responsibility for Route Evaluation and Industry / International Affairs.

After eight years in Aviation, Moraes moved on to a stint in Brand Management in the FMCG sector with Reckitt & Colman. Over the next two decades that followed, he was involved in the general management and marketing of several leading entities in wide and varied fields including air freight, industrial marketing, advertising, automobiles, home entertainment, security, motor racing, broadcasting and telecommunications.

Among the key positions he held during this period were General Manager Communication & Business Equipment (Private) Ltd., Director/Chief Executive Access Graphics (Private) Ltd., Managing Director MOTZ International, Head of Business Development IWS Holdings, CEO IWS Holdings Automobile Directorate (encompassing companies that were the Sole Agents in Sri Lanka for Jaguar, Porsche, and Daewoo Motor Cars); CEO Home Entertainment and Communications Ltd., Director Monaro/Group 4 Security Services Ltd., CEO Speed Development and Managing Partner Green Field Ventures.

Commenting on his new role at Indocean Developers, Moraes said: “Altair is intended to be a one-of-its-kind development in South Asia in terms of architectural design, structural engineering, and living experience. It will be a game changer in contemporary living and will bring a new dimension in aesthetics to Colombo’s skyline. My role will be to match this unbeatable proposition with the people whose lives it will change.”

Comprising of two tower blocks, one of which leans in to the other, Altair, located at 127, Sir James Peiris Mawatha, Colombo 2 (former Colombo Commercial Co. property), will rise to 68 stories, offering its 410 apartments spectacular views of the Beira Lake and the Indian Ocean. The building has been designed by the globally recognised celebrity architect Moshe Safdie. Besides its 1.5 million square feet of high-end eco-friendly living space, the development will also offer 40,000 square feet of supportive up-market retail space. The building is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2017.

Indocean is a venture of the South City Group, which brings together over 150 years of cumulative development experience. The Group has completed 10 million square feet of real estate development and currently has 20 million square feet of space worth USD 1.1 billion under construction.
