Says massive development projects will be initiated in the future
Massive development projects will be initiated in Sri Lanka in future in addition to the current projects, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said yesterday.
President Rajapaksa has made these remarks during a meeting with the ruling party parliamentarians held Tuesday at the Temple Trees to obtain their ideas and suggestions to formulate the 2014 Budget.
The Government presented the 2014 Appropriation Bill with an estimated expenditure of Rs. 2.54 trillion in Parliament yesterday.
The discussion focused on future programs that will be implemented in highways, power, tourism, rural industries, health and education sectors. Special focus was on the programs in the agriculture sector.
The Parliamentarians have suggested development projects that need to be carried out in their respective electorates and also offered views on the programs that should be implemented at the national level in the next budget.
President Rajapaksa held discussions with the divisional secretaries on Monday to obtain their views and suggestions for the 2014 Budget.
The President in his capacity as the Minister of Finance had held 12 rounds of discussions with representatives from all sectors in formulating next year’s budget.
Ministers Sarath Amunugama and Basil Rajapaksa, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and Secretary to the Finance Ministry Dr. P.B. Jayasundera were also present at the discussion.
