President opens state-of-the-art fish market complex in Trinco

President Mahinda Rajapaksa opened a state-of-the-art fish market complex in Trincomalee on Tuesday which will give immense benefits to the fishing community and the public in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.



The complex is fully equipped with ultra-modern facilities such as a 35 ton capacity deep freezer room, a vehicle park, water purification plants, electricity generators, sewerage plants, rain water removal apparatus, a restaurant, banks, post office, an auditorium and 64 trade stalls.  The Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Ministry has spent Rs.101 M on the construction of the new complex with funds provided by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) under the Post-Tsunami Coastal Rehabilitation and Resource Management Program.

The fish market complex is designed to create a convenient business atmosphere for traders and consumers.

Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne, several Ministers and  Politicians as well as a large crowd were present.
