‘From the farm to the kitchen,’ the theme for this year’s Pro Foods Pro Pack exhibition conjures the true essence of the entire food processing chain that eludes the attention of the common man. Many of us would have a vague idea of the dynamics of the process. The farmers toiling the land for produce, the intermediary transport and the final product are the main attributes of the process that many are aware of.

Pro Food Pro Pack and Ag biz exhibition is seen by many as the one-stop shop in experiencing the entire process of food processing – ‘from the farm to the kitchen.’

Over 60 contributors from India, Thailand, Malaysia and Dubai as well as over 200 local companies from the processed foods, packaging and beverage industry, will showcase the best of their products at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre from 6 - 8 July 2012.

This event will be an open platform for various activities. Not only are companies involved in processed foods, packaging and beverages able to display the best they have to offer but they are also given the opportunity to meet new clients, receive advice from others in the industry. In addition to this, they will be given an opportunity to educate the general public on the various process that take place once crops are harvested and sent for sale, what Government regulations are in place in relation to the agriculture industry and much more.

Other exhibitors include companies from a wide range of industries connected to agriculture. For example, there will be representatives from fertilizer and agro chemicals, representatives from food technology companies, refrigeration and cold chain companies who will attract members of the food and beverage sector as well as members of the processed food and packaging industry who will attract a wide cross-section from the industry, from supermarkets to small retailers.

As a one-of-a-kind exhibition, it is the ideal place to showcase new businesses, new ideas and all technology that would aid the growth of the industry. At this year’s exhibition, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the Ministry of Agriculture have set up a special pavilion for Small and Medium Industries as a way of giving them a much needed helping hand to introduce them into the industry. By doing this, small and medium industries will gain exposure and be able to build a network of contacts and potential new clients to help them grow in the future.

Over the last 10 years, Pro Foods Pro Pack has become synonymous with creating a unique event for the public and industrialists where all members from various aspects of the agriculture industry can meet to share ideas, learn about the latest developments in their field, as well as learn the intricacies of the other areas of the industry.

For example, companies from a packaging background can learn how processed foods are manufactured and vice versa, a valuable opportunity that they may not get anywhere else.

In addition to the main exhibition, there will be various concurrent events taking place such as Halal Foods Asia and Livestock and Dairy and Poultry Asia, thereby attracting completely different sectors to the exhibition. There will also be cooking competitions, the popular Pro Foods Pro Pack cooking studio, special raffle draws and much more.

Pro Foods Pro Pack 2012 is an ideal place for industrialists, producers and consumers to meet and interact with each other, the ultimate in real time feedback. It is definitely an experience not to be missed by anyone.
