25 June marks the 22nd anniversary of the foundation of the Slovenian Republic. With the foundation of the republic, moreover, Slovenia went back to the original spirit of “I feel sLOVEnia”, under the banner of prosperity. The country became an attraction to the world over.

Therefore, it is not a coincidence, that for the first time in Sri Lanka’s history, that the government of Sri Lanka and a prominent business leader forum under the auspices of Minister of External Affairs Prof. G. L. Pieris initiated a visit to strengthen relationships on economic and cultural interests between Slovenia and Sri Lanka. This bilateral trade symposium that was held in Ljubljiana on 10 June focused on “Improving and strengthening partnerships” with Slovenia.

The business forum was timely and significant as it built stronger action-oriented platform to capture trade and investment opportunities beyond the traditional European markets and focus towards Central and Eastern Europe.  In the current year Sri Lanka celebrates the 4th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic and trade relations between Sri Lanka and Slovenia. The Sri Lankan Government and business delegation to Slovenia was headed by Minister of External Affairs Prof G. L. Pieris and the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Slovenia in Sri Lanka Sanath Ukwatte, on the initiative of Ambassador Janez Premoz of Slovenia.
