Prof. Kapila Goonasekera joins Richard Pieris Board

Prof. Kapila G.A. Goonasekera has joined the Board of Richard Pieris and Company PLC as an Independent Director.

Prof. Goonasekera is an Agricultural Engineer with specialisation in soil and water engineering, agricultural mechanisation and environmental sciences. 

He has served as a consultant in agricultural and environmental sciences related fields for a number of national and international agencies. He has served as a consultant and a member of the Board of Directors of RPC Management Services and as the CEO of a company that exported organic tea and spices. Currently he is serving as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Foundation. 

He has research interests in introducing technology changes in tea plantation and a paradigm shift in the process of tea manufacturing and value addition.

He received his career training at the University of Peradeniya as an agriculture graduate with postgraduate qualifications from the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand and Virginia Tech in USA.

As an academic, researcher and an administrator, he has over 40 years of experience in the national university system. He has served as Academic Head and Professor of Agricultural Engineering, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya and the University of Vocational Technology.

He was a life member and the President of Agricultural Engineering Society of Sri Lanka and the Founder President of the Sri Lanka Korea Rural Development Administration Alumni Association. He is also a life member of National Academy of Sciences, the Sri Lanka Society for Advanced of Sciences and the National Agricultural Society.

With the latest appointment, the Board of Directors of Richard Pieris and Company PLC comprises of Dr. Sena Yaddehige (Chairman), Lakshman R Watawala, W.J.V.P. Perera, S.S.G. Liyanage, S.A.B. Ekanayake, J.H.P. Ratnayeke and K. Goonasekera.
