Prof. Neelakshi. C. Premawardhena of the Modern Languages Department, University of Kelaniya, received an award as third runner-up in ‘Path Towards Sustainability 2015’ presented by Siegen University, Germany.
Prof. Premawardhena was awarded an incentive for the project titled ‘Empowering Women for Sustainability: Poverty Alleviation of Underprivileged Women in Sri Lanka’. This project is initiated by Prof. Premawardhena with students following the elective course on ‘Introduction to Technical Writing and Research Methodology’ offered by the Department of Modern Languages.
The award has brought much recognition to Prof. Premawardhena and the University of Kelaniya. The award for first place went to participants from Philippines on prevention of sea erosion and the position of second place was won by participants from Albania for a project on building material made from seaweed.
The Sustainability Award 2015 was presented by Johannes Remmel, the Minister for Environment and Climate Protection, Agriculture, Conservation and Consumer Protection of North Rhine Westphalia, Germany. According to the Media Unit of the University of Kelaniya, many distinguished guests were present at the ceremony.
