The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC), the main business chamber of the country will conduct a series of five workshops on bar coding, labelling and standards in Uva, Northern, Southern, Eastern and Central regions. The first two workshops of this series will be conducted at Uva and Ampara Regional Chambers on 17 and 18 May. The project is funded by Asia Foundation.

A large number of small and medium manufacturers in these regions will benefit from training on bar coding, labelling and standards. The training will empower them to reach markets and secure a better price for their products. This will be carried out by creating awareness on the importance of bar coding, mandatory labelling and standardisation requirements.

The importance of these tools for marketing their products will also be highlighted. The participants will also be made aware of the procedure and costs of adhering to these requirements. Their success in the domestic market will pave way for some of the SMEs to eventually reach out to the international market.

For the officials of the regional chambers, this workshop will provide an opportunity to not only acquire the necessary knowledge, but also to interact with their members and network with officials who conduct the training programs. The resource materials developed for the workshops will also be made available to members through the Regional Chambers. For more information on the workshops contact Hasitha on 5588884 or [email protected]
