The Ministry of Primary Industries in Sri Lanka assists primary industries in the high end value addition of products and product diversification through training, technological guidance and financial support when necessary.
To support this effort of the Ministry, PUM agreed to provide senior experts from the Netherlands with over 30 years of experience in their field of expertise. PUM’s database contains over 3,000 CVs of experts belonging to 70 sectors of Industries and Agricultural Enterprises. PUM pays for the international travel and insurance of the expert. The requesting industries only have to provide accommodation, food and local transport for the expert, who will advise the industry on a voluntary basis.
On the advice of Primary Industries Minister Daya Gamage, a MoU was signed between the Minister and PUM Netherlands Senior Experts recently at the ministry. The Ministry Secretary Eng. Bandula Wickramarachchi, Country Coordinator Cees van Dijl, PUM local representative S.P.C. Kumarasinghe and from MOPI Additional Secretary Administration M.A. Nalanee, Deputy Director N. Jayadeera and Development Officer Vasanthi Thanaweerarachchi participated in the event.
PUM Local Representative Kumarasinghe said this MOU gives an opportunity for local primary industries to obtain much needed Western European technology and training from experts from the Netherlands through the Ministry of Primary Industries.
