Rajive Casie Chetty elected as new ACCA Sri Lanka President

ACCA’s annual general meeting (AGM) took place recently at the Cinnamon Grand Colombo, where Rajive Casie Chetty was elected as the new President for this year.

He is the Managing Director Horana Plantation PLC. He previously served as Head of Research at CT Smith Stock Brokers (Pvt) Ltd. He was also appointed Executive Director of Lanka Ceramic PLC and continues to hold that position at present.

In addition he also acts as the Managing Director of Ceytea Plantation Management Ltd. and is the Deputy Chairman/Managing Director of Uni-Dil Packaging Limited and Uni-Dil Paper Sacks (Pvt) Ltd., which are subsidiaries of Lanka Walltile PLC.

Outgoing President Nisreen Rehmanjee thanked the all those who helped make her year a success. “We need all the assistance we can muster from members, affliates and students to take this institution forward,” she added.

She pointed out that all of them have a role to play as ACCA brand ambassadors and affirmed that growing student numbers has been and will continue to be ACCA’s No. 1 priority over the next few years. “Competition is tougher and we need to make faster strides in terms of tuition providers, improved marketing efforts and closer liaisons with employers in the years to come.”

Casie Chetty in his acceptance speech said that he was truly honoured to be appointed as the President of ACCA Sri Lanka for 2012/13 and to have such an excellent committee appointed to work alongside him.

He stated: “I believe, the ACCA qualification is an access to the vast pool of information and knowledge and I encourage our members and students to make maximum use of this knowledge base. I believe that it has more value when shared and look forward to working with other professional bodies/institutes in Sri Lanka for the betterment of the finance professional at large.”

Head of ACCA Sri Lanka Nilusha Ranasinghe commented that ACCA would continue to serve as a powerful voice for finance professionals and the business community in Sri Lanka and that their research and inputs would continue to add value to the profession which is currently highly respected worldwide. In addition to this will be the considerable contribution that ACCA continues to make in the training of accounting professionals in the country. Speaking at the event, Lucia Real Martin, Director Emerging Markets – Asia, ACCA said that the ACCA membership provides access to what is widely regarded as the profession’s most comprehensive range of career and professional development resources including accounting and auditing standards, technical updates, online and face-to-face learning opportunities and further qualifications. She further affirmed that it also demonstrates to employers and clients one’s commitment to maintaining the highest professional and ethical standards.

Today ACCA is very well-positioned to educate employers and employees about the value and international recognition of ACCA qualifications and have earned the recognition and proof that the ACCA professional route is recognised by some of the most prominent and influential companies and institutions world-wide and is considered a world-class professional accounting qualification.
