Ranna212 is now a member of Switch Asia through the organisation’s ‘Greening Sri Lanka Hotels’ initiative toward sustainable tourism practices.

This European Union-funded project executed by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce encompasses energy, water and waste management programs to minimise harmful impact on our environment.

General Manager Reyhan Morris said: “With Sri Lanka’s momentous growth in the tourism industry, Ranna212 is committed to play its role in caring for the environment.”

The process toward certification begun with each and every system and process within the resort being evaluated to identify where environmentally-favourable principles could be implemented. This process was spearheaded by Chief Engineer Asantha Gomes who has vast experience in the spectrum of ensuring green policies in hoteliering. Ranna212 has today implemented multiple platforms for energy saving. These include complete reliance on Compact Fluorescent Lighting (CFL) bulbs; the use of only solar power to generate hot water and the implementation of an inverter system in all air conditioning units that allows continuously regulated temperature with a reduced requirement on power supply.

The creation of a sewage treatment plant ensures that contaminants are removed from waste water and sewage with objective of producing environmentally safe fluid that is re-used to water plants at the resort. Rainwater harvesting is implemented by routing all rainwater to a large underground water storage tank. With an unpredictable weather cycle, this enables rain water to be collected during the monsoon season, stored and then utilized for watering of plants during the drier months.

Ranna212, Tangalle is proud to be a part of the initiatives of Switch-Asia toward a greener environment. In the landscape of Sri Lanka’s booming tourism industry, Ranna212 endeavours to be in the forefront of sustainable tourism practices.
