Ravi K calls people to be stakeholders of 2016 budget process

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake has called public and private sector institutions and the general public to submit proposals for inclusion in the proposed budget for 2016.

To create a new country in 60 months - as spelled out under its five-point plan of building the economy, fighting corruption, ensuring freedom, developing infrastructure and investment and developing education - the Minister requested public and private sector institutions and the general public to be the stakeholders in the budget process by submitting their proposals to be included in the proposed budget for 2016.

Director General of the Trade and Investment Policy Department of the Finance Ministry said that proposals were also invited from the general public and pressure groups with regard to multifaceted benefits derived from social welfare schemes, the management of public sector income and expenditure and infrastructure development.

Proposals can be sent to the Trade and Investment Policy Department of the Ministry of Finance, Colombo 01 via post, fax (0112484962) or email ([email protected]). 

Accordingly, public sector institutions such as ministries, departments, public enterprises, semi-government institutions, trade chambers and professionals are invited to forward their proposals aimed at increasing productivity and economic development in varied fields aimed at providing dividends to the masses for creating good governance in the country.

If the proposals submitted are leading towards increasing the efficiency and productivity, further discussions will be held with the proponents before arriving at a final decision.

The Finance ministry also expects proposals for policy improvements in the area of trade and investment, the SME sector and the deployment of the labour force from the relevant public and private sector organisations to be included in next year’s budget proposals. 

The Finance Ministry is also looking for public proposals for the promotion of good governance through the development of living standards of the people and sector-wise proposals for the development of health and education.
