Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake is scheduled to address the National Chamber of Exporters (NCE) council members at their council meeting today at the Liberty Ball Room, Ramada Hotel, Colombo 03.
The Minister will outline to the chamber the economic and financial policy objectives of the Government in relation to exports. He is also expected to clarify the Government’s position on issues related to the industry encountered by Sri Lankan exporters. These will include the following:
Recent regulation regarding repatriation of export earnings to Sri Lanka by exporters
Proposed economic partnership and Free Trade Agreement with India, China and other countries
Impact on Sri Lankan exports by the lifting of the ban on fisheries products to EU countries and the benefits which exporters will be able to gain by the regain of the GSP plus to Sri Lankan exporters for expansion of products and services to the EU market
Impact of the revision on VAT raise and other taxes on Sri Lankan exports which can be encountered through other measures such as the depreciation of the rupee, and the other release that will be provided by the Government, etc.
The NCE said in a statement that this forum will provide a good opportunity for the council members, who are the sectoral heads of the various products and services exported, to clarify issues which are of concern to them.
