Renewed interest from Japanese biz to invest in SL, envoy tells Ceylon Chamber

Kenichi Suganuma, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan in Sri Lanka, says there is renewed interest shown by Japanese businesses to invest in Sri Lanka.

He said the formation of a National Government and the new Government’s call for investors to arrive in Sri Lanka has propelled the newfound interest by the Japanese investors.

Suganuma revealed these facts when he held a meeting with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce on Monday evening.

“There is a prospect of the whole of South Asia growing and many Japanese companies are looking at this part of the world and Sri Lanka is looked at as a hub or a gateway,” he also said.

Responding to the Japanese ambassador, Mangala Yapa said that the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce was also highly focused on promoting exports from Sri Lanka and also attracting FDI’s into the country. He said there were several highly potential sectors that any investor wanting to come to Sri Lanka could focus on.

 The meeting was also attended by Kazuhikoa Obama, Resident Representative of JETRO in Colombo, Kiichiro Iwase, First Secretary and the Head of the Economic Cooperation Section of the Japanese embassy in Sri Lanka and Lilakshini De Mel, Senior Assistant Secretary General of the Ceylon Chamber. The meeting took place at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
