The dairy farmers together with the entire community in Uva Wellassa proved their ability to rise to the call of our nation, when the new factory complex of Ruwansiri Dairies Ltd was ceremonially opened by Uva Wellassa Chief Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa on 23 January.
Today, Sri Lanka is known to be the largest importer of spray dried milk in the world to many dairy producing countries. The consumers of these countries consume fresh milk and maintain their healthy life style. This should open your eyes and it is not too late to switch back to fresh milk. Your move will also motivate our dairy farmer to remain and develop this industry.
Forty one years ago, late Mr. K.M. Appuhamy Divithotawela, founder of the Ruwansiri milk collection centre had a vision in leading our nation towards self sufficiency in milk. The trust and the commitment to develop the milk farming community helped the organisation to grow in leaps and bounds.
The Ruwansiri Enterprises was established by the present Chairman K.M. Dayalal Divithotawela to spread its wings in gas, fuel and animal health products distribution. Today, Ruwansiri Dairies Ltd is the largest milk collector in the Uva province. The farming community was guided to enhance the local milk production and to improve cattle management. Credit facilities were granted to milk farmers to develop their dairy industry. Training programs were conducted to educate farmers on new developments and technology by the organisation. This not only improved the quantity of milk production, but also the quality of milk.
Ruwansiri Dairies Ltd selected Tessa, the world’s best dairy manufacturing plants to convert fresh milk into pasteurised milk, ice cream, yoghurt, cheese and other value added products under the brand name ‘Milrain’. The name ‘Milrain’ denotes ‘fortune from the sun and moon’.
The new factory complex was commissioned to provide high quality dairy products to our discerning customers and we invite all Sri Lankans to bless Ruwansiri Daries Ltd to achieve success in their new endeavour that uplifts the standard of milk collection and production.
Ruwansiri Daries Ltd CEO Ramesh Wickramasekera explained on their plans to provide ‘fresh milk’ products under the brand name Milrain to the entire nation. Ruwansiri Daries Ltd Chairman K.M.D. Divithotawela and CEO Ramesh Wickramasekera appreciate the contribution given by farming community, all authorities, veterinary surgeons, banks, Optimum Q and the Government for the assistance and encouragement provided in growing bigger and better in the local dairy industry over the last 41 years.
