Selmo receives ISO 22000:2005 International Standards Certification

Selmo Ltd., an organisation in the forefront of the the flexible packaging industry in Sri Lanka, supplying packaging solutions to companies manufacturing foodstuffs and other produce, obtained the ISO 22000:2005 international quality certification recently. This certification has been presented to Selmo after an assessment of their procedures in the lamination factory at Dekatana for manufacturing flexible packaging products according to international standards of food safety. Speaking about obtaining the certification, Managing Director of Selmo, Anton Hemantha said: “This is a milestone we have achieved after three decades of existence. The ISO:22000 was awarded to us after redoing the surroundings of the production area and production process of our factory at Dekatana and subjecting these improved surroundings to ISO:22000 standard assessments relevant to food safety.” Selmo was established in 1983 and initially manufacturing printed and unprinted poly bags made of polypropylene and polyethylene used for the packing of tea and garments. With steady growth, they became one of the foremost companies in Sri Lanka manufacturing multi colour printed hi barrier laminated flexible packaging materials. Last year, Selmo set up an eight colour gravure printing machine at the Dekatana factory. Selmo also has obtained the ISO 9001-2008 international certification for quality systems of their products earlier. At the 2012 Lanka Star award presentation ceremony, they won an award for their Shrink Sleeve label and is the pioneer in manufacturing this kind of shrink sleeve products in Sri Lanka. They supply specialised packaging products to suit the different needs of the client’s products. These products thus packaged keep extended periods even in different storage conditions. The flexible packaging products of Selmo are designed in such a way to provide with a barrier for moisture and oxygen which arrests spoiling of the contents inside thus causing long shelf life for clients produce. Selmo’s product range consists of printed and plain laminated reels, sheets and sachets of converted aluminium foil, polyester, polypropylene and nylon. They supply packaging material for several products including extruded snacks, biscuits, toffees, chocolates, sweets, cakes, bread, varieties of beverages, coffee, tea, noodles, soya meat products, processed meat products, condiments and other spices, dry food items, insecticides and fertiliser.
