The Centre for Technical Excellence in Ceramics (CENTEC) is organising a seminar for CEOs of Sri Lankan manufacturing industries jointly with the Sri Lanka Ceramics and Glass Council to educate them on environmental issues faced by Sri Lankan industries and how to overcome these problems without affecting industries and the Sri Lankan economy. In comparison with other South Asian countries, Sri Lanka probably makes a greater effort to protect its environment. Nevertheless, limited commitment and dedication from the public, industries and the state have created serious environmental threats in recent years. Deforestation, soil erosion and dam siltation, garbage pollution, coastal degradation, freshwater pollution, urban and industrial waste disposal, atmospheric pollution and lack of regulation and commitment are some of the main issues common to industry. In the recent past, many manufacturing companies have taken steps to educate their middle management personnel on environmental issues.  However, top management and decision makers do not come face to face with these challenges until they have to deal with a problem of great magnitude. Professionally qualified and experienced senior officers from the Industrial Technology Institute (ITI) and Central Environmental Authority (CEA) will share their experience on environmental issues. Key speakers are A.S. Pannila (Additional Director, Technical Services - ITI), Dushanthi Ranpatige (Research Scientist, Environmental Technology Section - ITI), Thilak Gunasekara (Principal Research Engineer, Environmental Technology Section - ITI), Muthukudaarachchi (Deputy Director General - CEA) and Dr. Mahesha Ranasoma, Managing Director, Dipped Products PLC who will share his recent experience at this seminar. This seminar will be an eye-opener for the Sri Lankan manufacturing industries on current Environmental issues and how to address them and maintain industrial harmony. It will afford an opportunity for participants to interact with officials of the Industrial Technology Institute (ITI) and Central Environmental Authority (CEA).  Further details on the seminar registration procedure could be obtained from the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (www.chamber.lk) – Ishani (5588852 or Shenoza 5588882).
