Seminar on Sri Lanka’s ocean resource: Our hidden Gold mine

The Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies, will be organising a seminar on ‘Sri Lanka’s ocean resource: Our hidden Gold mine’ on 20 February 2013, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Kadirgamar Institute.  The seminar is bringing together eminent personalities and experts in the field of Indian Ocean studies and the marine environment.  The Seminar is of timely importance as Sri Lanka is facing many threats and challenges in the Indian Ocean region and to its Marine Resources.

Working in partnership with the Government, private-sector and community organisations, the Kadirgamar Institute is the host of a series of national conferences on reconciliation.  The institute also conducts seminars and lectures by eminent scholars. The Kadirgamar Institute Executive Director Asanga Abeyagoonesekara, invites all those interested to participate in the seminar. The Speakers of the seminar include: University of Ruhuna Oceanography and Marine Head/Department Geology Dr. Terney Pradeep Kumar, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage, Bandaranaika Centre for International Studies senior lecturer Dr. SinhaRaja Tammita Delgoda, FAO Representative for Sri Lanka and the Maldives Patrick T. Evans, Regional Centre for Strategic Studies (RCSS) Member Dr. Sithara Fernando, MFF Regional Project GoM Project Manager (SL) Arjan Rajasuriya and Coordinator, Marine and Coastal Thematic Area at IUCN Sri Lanka, Tuna Export Association Tilarni Amath, Geological Survey and Mines Bureau Chairman Dr. N.P. Wijayananda, United Nations ESCAP Former Economic Affairs Officer Dulip Jayawardena.

The moderators of the seminar will be United Nations International Tribunal for the law of the sea Former Assistant Secretary General Gritakumar Chitty, Young Global Leader (YGL) and LKIIRSS Executive Director Asanga Abeyagoonasekera.
