A session on “Bilateral Trade between Sri Lanka and Germany” has been organised by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka on Thursday 3 April 2014 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Chamber Auditorium No. 450, D.R. Wijewardene Mawatha, Colombo 10.
German Ambassador in Sri Lanka Dr. Jurgen Morhard will be the special guest speaker accompanied by Deputy Head of Mission Marja Einig, and the 3rd Secretary of the Embassy. They will speak on current business trends, trade potential, opportunities for export, import, investment/and other services available in Germany. There will also be a Q&A session where the participants will get an opportunity to interact with the Ambassador and other officials of the German Embassy.
According to the Department of Commerce of Sri Lanka, bilateral trade volumes between Germany and Sri Lanka stood at $ 771.69 million in 2012. Sri Lanka exports to Germany - apparels and clothing, solid tyres, tea, gloves, rubber tyres, natural rubber, fish and leather products. Sri Lanka imports motor cars, electrical machinery, medical and surgical instruments and appliances from Germany.
Germany is the leading Eurozone investor in Sri Lanka with several investment projects currently in the country. German investments in Sri Lanka – many of the German companies operating in Sri Lanka are global leaders in their field of specialisation. The investment areas include apparels, hosiery, textiles, electronic products, light engineering, rubber based products such as tyres and automobile spare parts, gems and jewellery and tourism.
