A high powered delegation from the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) has been exploring investment opportunities in Hambantota.

One of the key aims of their visit on 28 May was for delegates to establish mutually beneficial relationships with key Government officials, as well as with the local business community.

The Hambantota District Chamber of Commerce (HDCC) organised a meeting with business people and Government officials in the district, followed by networking lunch at the District Secretariat Office, Hambantota.

In his speech of welcome on behalf of Sri Lanka, Hambantota District Secretary, R. C. De Soyza, offered to facilitate investments in the district. He invited proposals from the visitors and urged them to submit those relating to the airport and seaport directly to the Airport and Aviation Services Ltd and Ports Authority.

HDCC Past President Azmi Thassim spoke about business opportunities in the district. Acting Head of Marketing Kaushali  Munasinghe and UDA Assistant Director M.L.M Yehia gave presentations on ‘Greater Hambantota Development Initiative’ and ‘An Introduction to the Mattala International Airport and Free Zone’ respectively.

HDCC President Alhaj M.S Usuph, HDCC CEO Krishanthi Weerasinghe and UDA Deputy Director (Planning) Sugath Premasiri also participated in the meeting.

The SBF represents more than 18,000 companies in Singapore. Members of the visiting group came from a wide variety of sectors, ranging from construction, urban development and transport, to tourism, retail and education.
