By Cassandra Mascarenhas
Singer Sri Lanka announced a partnership with Indian consumer durable giant Onida yesterday, which will now allow Singer to exclusively distribute Onida’s world-class range of modern TV throughout the island via its country-wide retail network.
Onida has often been voted as the top most trusted consumer durable brand in India and its range of 3D and SMART LED TVs will now be available in Sri Lanka.
Singer Sri Lanka will be marketing and distributing LED, 3D LED and SMART LED television models from Onida, ranging from 22 to 40 inches.
“Initially, we will make available a range of 3D and gradually expand into other product categories. We expect to gain more market share with the Onida brand and further strengthen our presence in the consumer durables segment,” stated Singer Sri Lanka Commercial Director Mahesh Wijewardena in his welcoming address at the launch.
“We are extremely happy to have tied up with the highly reputed company which has an over 15 million consumer base in India. Being an Indian brand, Onida is well known to Sri Lankans and with this tie-up we are sure it will be able to reach even more consumers all across the country.”
He added that as a retailer of consumer durables, Singer continuously strives to give their customers the best brands and service. Singer is currently the number one destination to purchase electronic and consumer brands, and he noted that this partnership is yet another step forward in this journey.
"The TV is currently evolving at a rapid pace, thanks to the convergence with internet technology. We are able to offer our customers in India – and now in Sri Lanka – an exciting range of modern 3D and SMART LED TVs that take advantage of these recent breakthroughs,” stated MIRC Electronic India Vice President – Sales and Service S.K. Jain, who was instrumental in making the partnership happen.
“Singer Sri Lanka’s reputation for encouraging its customers to adopt a modern lifestyle by delivering trusted excellence in the form of world-class consumer good is inspiring. The resulting synergy between our two brands therefore, will be highly beneficial to the end customer.”
Singer Group CEO Asoka Pieris explained that Onida has recognised that Sri Lanka is one of the fastest growing countries in the region and the company wanted to make sure that it had a partner in Sri Lanka that will do justice to their brand.
“Singer has many brands – European, American, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and even the leading Pakistani brand but we didn’t have a leading electronics brand from India and Onida is the brand that will fill that gap. Apart from that, Onida has a very exciting line up and are in the forefront of 3D and LED TVs which is why we are partnering with them.”
