Strengthening links between training and business needs, Singer Vocational Academy, an arm of the Singer Group now offers vocational aspirational training programs empowering Sri Lankan youth to enhance their potential and contribute to the country’s growth.

Leveraging Singer’s heritage built over 164 years and its unmatched power as the No. 1 brand in  the country for 10 consecutive years, the vocational training programs are adept in helping local youth develop new skills and advance educational goals, fostering a new generation of well qualified and highly motivated workforce.

“The students who participate in our vocational programs will gain a better opportunity to support themselves as they acquire new competencies and skills, enhancing their employability. By educating a local workforce, we generate value for our businesses and a positive effect on the economy, whilst the students themselves will gain a brighter future,” said Singer (Sri Lanka) PLC Group Chief Executive Officer Asoka Pieris.

Through a dual structure of vocational education coursework and on-the-job training, the academy will initially offer a Computer Hardware Technician training program and a Sales Management program.

Singer Vocational Academy has embarked on conducting these two training programs as the Singer Group has an exceptionally successful track record in sales, a deep understanding of Lanka’s culture and its context, internal expertise and the largest branch network of over 400+ locations within the country.

Moreover, the institute understands that local sales representatives have no certified academic path or certification in their career. The new Sales Management Program is a novel module which will help overcome this dearth offering participants vital knowledge and skills required. Participants of the program will also be provided on-the-job training unparalleled within the industry.

Singer is also a key player in the computer market and understands the need for skilled technicians in computer troubleshooting and repairs. As the computer penetration continues to grow within the country the requisite of trained quality specialists also increases.

The Academy’s Computer Hardware Technician program will enable participants to become skilled workers and specialists in their field. The Academy is also looking into the future possibility where program participants are even offered a franchise agency for Singer computer repairs.

Target audience for this program are mainly school leavers or those instilled with an entrepreneurial drive to succeed. A module on creating one’s own franchise agency too will be included in the program.

The two programs which follow national vocational guidelines are also expected to be accredited by local education authorities in the foreseeable future.

Enhancing these programs in the future is a priority of the Academy who is working to obtain a recognised vocational degree for their students as a stepping stone to a successful professional career.

For the convenience of participants, classes are to be held on the weekends enabling those currently employed to register.
