The Sri Lankan Business Council for Dubai and Northern Emirates on 30 November held a reception for the new Sri Lankan Ambassador to the UAE Sulaiman J. Mohideen and Consular General for Dubai and Northern Emirates Charitha Yattogoda as they begin their tenure in the United Arab Emirates. The event was held in the Crowne Plaza Hotel and was attended by the members of the Business Council, who represent the Sri Lankan business community in the UAE and their families.

Sri Lankan Business Council (SLBC) Chairman Devanand Mahadeva received the two dignitaries, formally welcoming them to the UAE on behalf of the business community and wished them good luck for the demands of their new roles.

Consular General Charitha Yattogoda spoke aptly of the trade relationship between the two nations and also the gradual increase in the flow of tourists from the region to Sri Lanka, noting how GCC nationals are frequent tourists to the island nation and how this particular relationship should be improved.

Sulaiman J. Mohideen took the floor and spoke of the importance of building and maintaining diplomatic relations with other nations and emphasised the importance of UAE to Sri Lanka and his hope that this relationship may flourish under his purview.

The event was brought to a close by SLBC Board Secretary Mario Seneviratne, who thanked the guests of honour and all the attendees, including a few special attendees such as Sri Lankan Airlines Country Manager Desiree Premachandra and Consulate in Dubai Tea Commissioner Hasitha De Alwis.
