Industrial Technology Institute (ITI), the pioneer scientific research and development organisation in Sri Lanka celebrated its 60th anniversary on Wednesday at the Water’s Edge in Battaramulla with the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.
The ITI, successor to Ceylon Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research (CISIR), which comes under the purview of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Research had been making a vital contribution to the local industrial sector within this 60-year period rendering a yeoman service to upgrade the production sector.
President Sirisena presented awards and certificates to workers who had completed a service period of more than 30 years at the Institute.
Minister of Technology Technical Education and Employment Susil Premajayantha, Minister of Post, Postal Services and Muslim Religious Affairs, Abdul Haleem, Deputy Minister Pandula Wijesekara, Ministry of Technology, Technical Education and Employment Secretary R. Wijialudchumi and the Industrial Technology Institute Chairman Niroshana Perera were among those present at the occasion.
