With the growing popularity of implementing 5S in Sri Lanka and the realisation by companies of the enormous benefits of implementing 5S, the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Quality and Productivity (SLAAQP) has organised a full day convention on 1 August 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Hotel School, No. 78, Galle Road, Colombo 3.
The convention will showcase nine case studies, all award recipients of the JASTECA Taiki Akimoto 5S Competition. The presenting organisations will cover manufacturing, service, retail and even the Police department. The presentations will cover how the organisations implemented 5S, how they overcame obstacles, pictures of 5S implementation, and the beneficial results that they have obtained. Presentations will be in a mix of English and Sinhala.
The following presentations are scheduled:
Manufacturing: D Samson Industries, DSI Sportswear Plant, Kalutara, Deputy General Manager Lakmal Dharmaratne and GlaxoSmithkline (Pvt) Ltd., Dehiwela, Senior Manager Operational Excellence Asanga Ramyajith.
Banking: Hatton National Bank PLC, Pettah Branch Senior Manager Saumya Aryasinha.
Utilities: Regional Telecom Office, SLT, Havelock Town, Manager Regional Telecom Office (Havelock Town and Colombo Central) A. D. T. R. Thilakaratne and Chief Engineers Office, Ceylon Electricity Board, Kundasale Area, Chief Electrical Engineer B. M. U. S. Bandara.
Department Stores: NOLIMIT, Ratnapura, Manager Training and Development Roshal Kotigala.
Power Generation: Vidullanka PLC HR Executive Shashiprabha Perera and Operations Manager Roshan Siriwardena.
Civil Defence: Cheddikulam Police Station, M. H. Abdul Rahuman.
Education and Training: Institute of Personnel Management, Quality Assurance Executive Ruwani Senevirathne.
The convention is useful for policy makers and managers who would get a good idea of the different approaches to 5S implementation. It will be useful even for those who have actually implemented 5S but require more exposure to what others have done.
