The President of the Sri Lanka-Australia-New Zealand Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Lionel D.C Silva together with the Vice Presidents and Immediete Past President, convened together with the Foreign Minister of Australia Julie Bishop at the residence of the High Commissioner Robyn Mudie recently. Both Prime Minster Tony Abott  and  Foreign Minister Julie Bishop attended the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2013, which was held in Colombo. It was during their brief stay that the President together with the Vice Presidents of the SLANZBC were able to meet with the Foreign Minister in person. This meeting though brief, enabled the President and the Vice Presidents to get acquainted with the Foreign Minister on a personal level, and further enhanced the visibility of SLANZBC’s role as a base for an escalation of trade relations between the two nations. We trust that the new Australian Government led by Prime Minister Tony Abott will closely observe and take advantage of the the swift economic  advancements that are taking place in Sri Lanka, which will bring about a vast paradigm shift in terms of closer trade and political cooperation between our nations in the coming years. This is indeed an opportune moment of assembly which has been vital towards building  strong mutual understanding and closer bilateral cooperation, between our two countries.
