SLIA conducts the National Conference of Architect 2012

The National Conference of the Architect 2012 was held on 23 February at the BMICH.  



Building on the theme ‘Regenerating Sri Lanka, the Architect and the Built Environment’ the conference highlighted the Architect’s contribution and the importance of regenerating the built environment especially with the end of the war in Sri Lanka.

Ministry of Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa was the chief guest at the event and Ashok Kantha, High Commissioner of India made his presence as the guest of honour.  The National Conference was addressed by Archt. Prof. Jan Gehl from Denmark, an expert in city planning and renowned Architect Prof. Frans van der Werf from the Netherlands. The experts from Sri Lanka included Eng. Janaka Kurukulasuriya, currently Additional Secretary Ministry of Defence and former Chairman of the UDA, Deshamanya Vidyajyothi Archt. Ashley de Vos, Archt. Prof. L.S.R. Perera, Archt. Dr. Janaka Wijesundera, Archt. Madhura Prematilleke, Archt. Thisara Thanapathy and Dr. Anila Bandaranaike. The conference was attended by members of SLIA, students of architecture and several distinguished invitees from other professional bodies and the Government sector.

The conference also opened doors to students from the Department of Architecture University of Moratuwa and the City School of Architecture Colombo who were given the exposure to expert opinions from the international arena.  

The Annual Session of 2012 also included a grand Inauguration Ceremony on 23 February, the Trade and Work Exhibition opened to the public on 22 and continued till the 26, the National Conference was held on the 23 and a Fellowship Nite which is a professional camaraderie held on the 25 as a grand finale.
