Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) launched Architect 2014, The Annual Sessions while felicitating their principal sponsors as well as stallholders of Architect 2013 in a gala event held at the Galadari recently. The event was graced by architects affiliated with the SLIA, stallholders of Architect 2013 and key figures of the corporate sector. During the felicitation of the participants and stallholders, the main sponsors of Architect 2013 – Alumex Ltd., Ranjanas Ceramic, PhoenixFlowGuard, Lanka Tiles, Charter House and Lankem Robbialac – were given prominence while others were equally commended for the support and the contribution provided to make the exhibition a success. Furthermore, the night was rendered vibrant by entertainment acts as well as a raffle draw that kept all charmed, followed by a cocktail where industry professionals were able to share their camaraderie. The Architect 2014 is set to take place from 19th February – 23rd February 2014 at the BMICH. A key component of the annual sessions, celebrating its 32nd successful year, is the Members’ Trade and Work Exhibition. The exhibition is considered to be an important highlight in the construction industry and will feature approximately 300 stalls that will showcase products related to the construction industry. “We have completed a special review of the stall layout for 2014, so we can have a more efficient and user-friendly exhibition,” said SLIA Vice President Architect Wijewardene, commenting on the amendments done to improve the exhibition. “There have been some improvements that were required from time to time and we have looked into all the aspects – aspects of SLIA, stall holders and visitors. This time around we have only four types of stalls with a very simple plan for booking. People can select based on pricing and demand.” The presentation of the launch of Architect 2014 was carried out by Architects Kamilka Perera and Chanaka Ariyarathne and prospective stallholders could reserve their stalls online starting from 8:30 a.m. 22 August 2013 onwards. Speaking at the felicitation, SLIA President Architect Professor Chitra Weddikkara said, “The most important thing is that the SLIA works together with many people and stall holders have been a part and parcel of SLIA from the time we started this exhibition. It is really important for us to appreciate people who have been with us over the years and this year we thought of doing something special to make it more glamorous and bigger than the other years.” The Annual Sessions 2014 is set to commence on 19 February with the Inauguration Ceremony and the opening of the Members’ Work and Trade Exhibition. The National Conference, addressed by renowned architects and other allied professionals from around the world, will be held on the 20 February 2014 while the Annual General Meeting and the Fellowship Night will be held on the 23 February 2014. The Exhibition will be open to the public from 20 to 23 February 2014 and SLIA will be inviting students through Heads of Schools.
