SLIA partners with sponsors to make Architect 2015 grand success

The Sri Lanka Institute of Architects signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) with sponsors who will power the Architect 2015 Exhibition which will be held at the Baandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) on 17 to 22 February next year. The MOU was signed at the Kingsbury in Colombo on 5 November with sponsors led by Strategic Sponsor Alumex Group who will fuel the prestigious exhibition next year. The Associate Sponsors for the Architect 2015 are Ranjanas Ceramic Ltd., Orel Corporation and True Value Ltd. while the event sponsors will be Sanken Lanka Ltd., Macksons Paints Lanka Ltd. and ICC-International Construction Consortium Ltd. All these companies have been long term partners of Sri Lanka Institute of Architects and will add strength to the Architect 2015 exhibition as well as different events of the 32nd Annual Sessions. The Architect 2015 exhibition is part of the 32nd Annual Sessions of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects will be held from 17 to 22 February 2015. The inauguration of the sessions will be held on 17 February 2015, followed by the National Conference next day. The Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects will take place on the final day, followed by a Fellowship Night. The 32nd Annual Sessions will come to the culmination with the start of the exhibition, the Architect 2015 which will be the most prominent exhibition of the construction industry in Sri Lanka. Initiated in 1983, with only a few stalls at the Delegates Lounge of the BMICH, the Architects Exhibition has reached the peak of its popularity not only among the public but also with the trade over the years. Today it is an anticipated event in the public calendar and is a guaranteed crowd puller, with nearly 100,000 including the general public, professionals, students and businesses, visiting each year. The 2014 exhibition comprised of 230 stalls that displayed products and services in the field of construction, while a separate area was dedicated towards displaying the work of architects and students. The Sri Lanka Institute of Architects is making sure that this mega event is perfectly crafted and promises to provide the best for the visitors over the six-day period at the BMICH. The visitors at the Architect 2015 will be able to observe and compare a wide range of products – related to architecture and construction – in terms of cost, quality and technology, to fulfill their individual requirements. The exhibition will display projects of over 100 registered architectural practices of Sri Lanka while students from reputed institutions in the country will also exhibit their creations and course work. The Architect 2015 will be the ideal place to observe and get to know the fast changing and developing world of architecture. The National Conference would be attended by a galaxy of international architects in the caliber of Architect Glenn Murcutt, KengoKuma, Kevin Low and Bernard Khoury. Glenn Murcutt 2002 Prizeker prize and the 2004 AIA Gold Medal winner would be a key attraction in the conference which will be attended by over a thousand members of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects, members of the institutes of architects in the region and local and foreign students of architecture. The renowned architect KengoKuma’s creations include the Suntory Museum of Art in Tokyo, Bamboo Wall House in China, Besancon Art Center in France and one of the largest spas in the Caribbean for Mandarin Oriental Dellis Cay.
