SLIBC Annual Members Night 2014

The Sri Lanka-Indonesia Business Council (SLIBC) of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce recently hosted the Annual Members Night 2014 at the Hilton Colombo. The event took place with the presence of Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia in Sri Lanka Harimawan Suyitno, R.D. Kumararatne of DOC and Jeewani Siriwardane of EDB. The SLIBC was inaugurated on 30 August 1991, under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce with the main objective of promoting trade, investment, services and tourism between Sri Lanka and Indonesia. ISIN Lanka Director/General Manager Jatinder Biala is the current President of SLIBC. Welcoming the Ambassador and other special guests, Biala recognised Indonesia as one of the fastest growing economies in the world and the potentially important and unexplored opportunities available to the business community in terms of trade and investment. The forthcoming Joint Commission between Sri Lanka and Indonesia was also highlighted by the president in his statement along with the council’s earnest interest in being a part of the State visit which is to coincide with it. Biala spelt out in detail the role of SLIBC and the actual work performed as a link in improving and strengthening bilateral relationships between Sri Lanka and Indonesia and to develop new initiatives and areas to co-operate. He further reiterated the commitment of the business council to support the activities of the Indonesian Embassy and also expressed his satisfaction in the support consistently extended by the embassy. Biala concluded on a positive note highlighting the steady growth of the active corporate membership of the business council in the recent past while thanking all the members and dignitaries for their participation at the event. In his address Ambassador Suyitno emphasised the importance of promoting business relationship between the two countries and the collaborative efforts that could be initiated in order to achieve the anticipated bilateral trade targets between the two nations which is being meticulously scrutinised within the Joint Commission 2014. The networking evening was attended by over 75 members and dignitaries and it proved to be the ideal opportunity to interact and share views.
